The Best Multilingual Music for Babies and Toddlers

multilingual-kids-music-100x100

Multilingual children need to hear their second languages spoken often. This is one of the reasons music can be a great educational tool. Words and phrases, even foreign ones, are much easier for kids (and adults) to remember when put to music.

Lately I honestly don’t know what is more impossible, getting beauty sleep or finding time to put on makeup. Without either I look like a walking zombie. To combat this I have been following a very simple three product in three minutes morning routine that leaves me feeling moisturized, protected and presentable.

Ten Products to Swipe from the Hospital After Having a Baby

To set the record straight I am not condoning stealing. I am pretty sure (except for the blankets) the hospital has no problem with you taking the left over supplies from your room. You paid for them right? Leave them behind and you’ll just have to shell out more money at the store later.

Linden Estelle is Six Months Old

Linden-Estelle-six-months-old-1
Linden Estelle turned six months old today. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. To ensure I remember all these special moments I will be taking a “birthday” picture every month for her first 24 months as well as charting her developments.

Summary of Linden’s development this past month:

  • Will sit up unattended
  • Has started to eat solids
  • Is able to recognize her name and understands that you are speaking to her
  • Will initiate attention from others
  • Is very interested in jewelry – diamonds in particular
  • Has recently cut her first TWO teeth

The Outtakes:

Ivey Maudell Counts to Ten in Spanish

It hasn’t been easy to capture my toddler on video as of late. She rarely sits still and she refuses to perform on queue – go figure.

However, the other day I was able to sneak up on her and capture her counting to ten in Spanish while pretending to read.

Now, if I can only capture her singing her ABC’s, which she has been doing successfully for about a month now.

Note: The above video was shot, edited, and posted using my iPhone.

Because Sometimes Life Stinks

urban
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to walk through our very urban neighborhood and smell garbage, and even worse, human waste. Sorry to be gross but sometimes city living literally stinks!

To combat this we are constantly filling our home with scents from nature; and by nature I am not talking about PineSol and Lemon Pledge. I am talking about real honest to goodness nature as in NATURAL, because let’s face it nature makes perfect scents.

Some of my favorite natural aromas are lemon, grapefruit, ginger and lavender.

lavender
I LOVE the irresistible smell of lavender.

Did you know that lavender is proven to encourage sound sleep? And due to it sharp bright scent it also works as an energizer.

Its fragrance transports me to France where the sun surrounds me with a warm golden light. This dream like vision calms my mind and relaxes me after a hard day.

This is true if I am locking myself in the bathroom so I can soak in the tub for 30 minutes or just taking a few deep breaths with my eyes closed for 30 seconds before I quickly do the dishes. Either way, life is more relaxing and joyful when the scent of lavender fills the room.

What natural scents take you away from the daily grind? How do you use them and where do they take you?

Dolphin Organics, Only and Always Natural

Dolphin-Baby-Organics_1

Many people are surprised to find out that although a label says “natural and organic” what it may really mean is “contains natural and organic ingredients along with a bunch of other crap”.

As a mom, I have often been frustrated by brands that CLAIM to be natural and organic. This is one of the reasons why I blog about organic beauty. I want to be able to celebrate companies that are actually making real organic and natural products with quality ingredients.

Dolphin Organics is one of these companies.

While at Blogher11 I had the pleasure of meeting the founders of Dolphin Organics. I fell in love with their story and bonded over our mutual understanding that what we put on our body is just as important as what we put in our body.

I was eager to take their products for a test spin – they kindly provided me with a few samples and an adorable onesize for Linden.

Here are the top ten things I like about Dolphin Organics:

  • The labels are straightforward, simple and easy to read so I know exactly what is in them!
  • Instead of being filled with water the first ingredient is ALOE. This provides a more concentrated and stable product.
  • The packaging is made with Post Consumer Recycled material.
  • The products are never tested on animals.
  • The shampoo and body wash actual has a nice lather which is often hard to find in a natural product.
  • The products are tear-free so it doesn’t bug our babies eyes.
  • The products are truly unscented.
  • The products are hypoallergenic.
  • The conditioner does a great job of detangling hair and doesn’t weigh down beautiful curls.
  • Great price point compared to other organic and natural products.
