Maternity Leave – Day 24

195.5 pounds and 6 days until my due date.

I woke up at 9:00am after a somewhat normal amount of sleep. I made the bed, swiffered the floors and got myself ready. My husband left the house to eat breakfast and run errands.

After our errands, I unsuccessfully tried to convince him to join me for a mani-pedi. Concerned that I would find myself going into labor while walking around the city alone I then called my mom and begged her to join me. It had been three weeks since my last pedicure. I was overdue; my feet were not only swollen but (once again) they were looking trashy.

In other news: Against my better judgment, I took and posted my very first “belly-shot”.

Belly-shot at 40 Weeks

Maternity Leave – Day 23

196 pounds and 7 days until my due date.

My husband woke me up at 6:45am with a kiss. He had just returned from Peets and had kindly brought me back a hot chocolate and a muffin.

It was hotel night* but I didn’t feel like leaving the house (like I normally do) therefore the day was awkwardly spent trying to stay out of Mei Mei’s way as she completed all the cleaning that I dread.

In the evening, we headed over to our friends house for dinner. They had prepared saag paneer, chicken curry, and roti in hopes that some spicy food would send me into labor (God bless them).

Maternity Leave – Day 22

195 pounds and 8 days until my due date.

I woke up at 7:25am when I received a phone call from my Dad. He had been listening to the news on the radio and felt he needed to warn me that my iPhone may get hacked. I thanked him for the information, told him I loved him and hung up the phone. Honestly, I wasn’t thrilled that he woke me up as I desperately needed more sleep. As I drifted back into a dream state, I couldn’t help but ponder the irony. He seems to have no problem continually forwarding me junk email but finds the possibility of my iPhone being hacked a matter of urgency.

About an hour later, I was once again attacked by the animals. I fed them and came to the realization that I was feeling ill (head cold perhaps?) and cranky. I crawled back in bed where I spent the day watching “P.S. I love you” (total tearjerker), reading more baby books and napping.

Maternity Leave – Day 21

195 pounds and 9 days until my due date.

I woke up at 3am after getting pretty much no sleep. I ate breakfast and played around on the computer until my husband exited the bed and I was therefore able to make it and tackle the rest of my morning routine.

I left the house before noon and headed to my weekly OBGYN appointment where I was admittedly not a happy camper due to the following complaints:

  • My hands and feet are severely swollen and numb
  • I have constant heartburn
  • I weigh as much as a baby elephant
  • And now to top it off – it appears I have hemorrhoids.

My OBGYN kindly said that hemorrhoids are rather common doing pregnancy due to the large amount of weight that one carries (yeah that helped – thanks). She then proceed to tell me how she could sympathize with my overall discomfort, but then admitted that all four of her children were born prior to 39 weeks (again, also not helpful). She did however instruct me to walk and have as much sex as possible which I am sure my husband is going to love.

Maternity Leave – Day 20

195 pounds and 10 days until my due date.

Today was very similar to Day 12 (except I now weigh 4 pounds more – ugh!).

I woke at 7am rested and ready for the day ahead. I made the bed, swiffered the floors and got myself ready. All of the sudden, it was time for me to go. I grabbed some fruit and yogurt from the fridge and promptly headed out the door.

Today I had a playdate (this time with Amy and her daughter). We walked around Downtown Danville and the Iron Horse Trail as well as had lunch at Mangia Mi. We discussed motherhood and overall parent-child bonding. By the end of our playdate my feet had drastically increased in size but so had my comfort level with child birth and my potential ability to care for an infant.

Again, I am gaining the most incredible insights from my mommy friends. Far more than any of the books I have read. I only hope one day I will be able to return the favor.
