Here is my list of holiday must haves for the gadget obsessed momma. I have separated this list into two sections “what I have” and “what I want” just in case the hubby Santa reads this and wants to know what to get me.
What I have:
Kindle
The Kindle is doing for books what the iPod did for music. Since it goes everywhere I go I am never without my books, which means I’ve done more reading in the last six months than I have done since I finished my undergrad ten plus years ago.
iPhone 3Gs
The iPhone is a gadget obsessed momma’s dream. While on maternity leave there isn’t anything I haven’t done with this phone including: made/received calls, booked meetings, made notes, played games, taken pictures, shot video, edited video, posted media, located parks/restaurants, ate, shopped, tweeted, updated my status, blogged, read and worked out. I won’t go anywhere without it.
Olympus Stylus Tough-8000
While attending mommy/baby swim classes I realized I had no way of capturing precious “in pool” memories. As a result I recently purchased this waterproof camera from walmart.com.
Black Diamond Orbit Lantern (in white)
I might not be an avid backpacker but this lightweight, collapse-able backpacking lantern has this gadget obsessed momma dreaming of the great outdoors. At less than 5.5 inches tall it is just so darn cute, especially in white. Great for power outages!
Aerolatte Stainless Steel With Stainless Steel Stand
Seriously one of the best gadgets I have ever bought. This steam free milk frother has not only saved me time it saves me money. With this I can create a coffee house worthy latte in one hand and hold a newborn in the other.
What I want:
Pulse Smartpen
The Pulse smartpen records everything you write and hear, so you never miss a word. As I head back to the corporate world, after being on maternity leave, I hope this will fill the “mommy brain” gaps.
Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U300
With this 3G/4G card your laptop will never be without internet access. The monthly service fee is a little steep but if you are able to work from the beach it might just be worth it.
The juice pack air™ by Mophie
A rechargeable external battery concealed inside of a protective form-fitting case for the iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS. It offers the full protection of a hard-shell case while providing virtually TWICE the battery life of the iPhone alone. Hopefully this will allow me to get through the day without needing to recharge!

I have always liked the look of good quality wrapping paper however I avoid purchasing it due to the cost and environmental impacts. My mom loves to tell people that even as a small child I would carefully unwrap presents in order to save the boxes, ribbons, and paper for later use.
Several months ago I noticed that walmart.com uses crumpled butcher paper instead of peanuts to pack their shipments. Although I was happy to see that they were using materials that could easily be recycled I thought it would be great to reuse/re-purpose this material before recycling.
After a few experiments I have managed to come up with several patterns that turn this ordinary butcher paper into amazing wrapping paper. I have wrapped all my holiday gifts this way and I plan on using this idea any time I need wrapping paper in the future.
Additional Tip: Have your kids decorate the wrapping paper for you – it is a great way to keep them entertained.
