Ten Products to Swipe from the Hospital After Having a Baby

To set the record straight I am not condoning stealing. I am pretty sure (except for the blankets) the hospital has no problem with you taking the left over supplies from your room. You paid for them right? Leave them behind and you’ll just have to shell out more money at the store later.

  1. Wash Basin – Good for giving the baby a sponge bath until the umbilical cord comes off. Great for washing bottles as well.
  2. Diapers – You will be neededing a lot of these.
  3. Thermometer – Instead of registering for one just keep the one from the hospital.
  4. Surgical Scrub Brush/Sponge – The scrub brush is perfect for washing baby’s scalp. I used it for my first child for over a full year. Also great for cleaning your toddler’s grumby nails.
  5. Peri Bottle – Grab one for you and one for the baby. Great for your private parts and works well for rinsing shampoo off a newborns head.
  6. Bulb Syringe – For all those baby boogers.
  7. Large Maxi Pads – Trust me you will need these. Doesn’t matter if you have a c-section or vaginal birth.
  8. Disposable Panties – Do you really want to ruin your good underwear?
  9. Newborn Hat – Perfect for those first few short weeks when a 0-3 month sized hat is just too big.
  10. Receiving Blankets – Multiple uses and provides a great memory.

Note: If you didn’t get a chase to swipe a receiving blanket from the hospital you can purchase them here.

Question:
What did you swipe from the hospital? Did you find anything useful that I didn’t include in the above list?

Finally an Infant Bath Tub that’s Perfect for City Dwellers

Living in the city without a garage (or even a storage closet) often means living a minimalist modest lifestyle if you want to or not. With my first child I tried to use a traditional plastic bath tub however I was at a complete loss on where to store it and began to dread bath time since using the tub was so awkward.

puj-tub

This why I think the Puj Tub is pure genius.

Since it is made from a soft foam that folds and conforms to almost any sink, the Puj Tub cradles and protects the baby during bath time. When bath time is over, you just toss the water out of it, unfold it and hang it up a hook behind the bathroom door. Finally an infant bathtub that isn’t awkward and is easily stored out of sight no matter how much storage space you have.

And believe it or not you can buy it from Walmart.

Linden Estelle is One Month Old

Linden-Estelle-one-month-old-2

Linden Estelle turned one month old today. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. To ensure I remember all these special moments I will be taking a “birthday” picture every month for 24 months as well as charting her developments.

Summary of Linden’s development this past month:

  • When cheek touched, turns to same side to suckle
  • Is startled by loud sounds
  • Lifts her head
  • Makes sounds other than crying (i.e. cooing, goos, gurgles and grunts)
  • Is successfully breastfeeding
  • Tracks objects and people as they move through her line of sight
  • Watches people’s faces when being talked to
  • Has started to smile
  • is very strong and can roll from her back to her side

Don’t you just LOVE the Onesie she is wearing? I found them on Etsy.

Ivey Maudell is Eleven Months Old

Ivey Maudell turned eleven months old today. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. To ensure I remember all these special moments I will be taking a “birthday” picture every month for her first 24 months as well as charting her developments.

Summary of Ivey’s development this past month:

  • Will stand momentarily without support.
  • She will walk around for several minutes while holding on to your hands.
  • Will enthusiastically empty the contents of her toy chest onto the floor however she will rarely put them back.
  • Is willing to voluntarily let go of an object she is holding if you ask her for it nicely.
  • Will poke and pinch small objects.
  • Will attempt to scribble when given a writing instrument.
  • Has learned to throw her binky with incredible speed, distance and accuracy.
  • Loves to have her hair brushed.
  • Is about to cut her third tooth.

The Outtakes:

Now that we are in the “double digits” I am finding it much harder to get a picture of Ivey actually holding the numbers.

DSC_3749-19

They usually end up in her mouth.

DSC_3801-23

Because we only had one “1″ we thought we would use this plastic fish for the second “1″ – this was not successful and also ended up in her mouth.

DSC_3770-21

Deep in thought.

DSC_3780-26

Although it kinda looks like she is upset in this picture, she is actually being really goofy and over the top. She is such a cheese ball and tends to laugh hysterically after flashing this smile.

Ivey’s First Tooth

Just when we were going to start calling her Toothless Tirman, Ivey delivered not only one but TWO teeth. Reminding me once again that it is always better to under promise and over deliver.

DSC_2752

Teething hasn’t put my dear little Ivey in the best of moods. She does however want to cuddle more than usual but everything else seems to just piss her off. Seriously, it was close to impossible to get her to crack a smile and show off her teeth.

After resorting to fart noises, funny voices, singing, playing music and dancing I was finally able to get a picture of Ivey’s pearly whites. Personally I think it was my dancing that did the trick.
