Make your own birthday banner. Not only is it reusable for multiple kids it also makes a great keepsake for the child’s memory box.

When it comes to goody bags, skip purchasing the themed ones and decorate the bags yourself! Also, try matching the items inside the bags to the party theme and ensure they are age appropriate for each party-goer. For Example because my children are younger the hostess included Olivia board books in their goody bags.

As adults we often think to have fresh flowers at our parties, why not have them at a party for kids? Especially when you can tie it back to the party theme.

And lastly, I LOVE these custom water bottles. The hostess even provided red and white paper straws!

So, which one of these fabulous party ideas would you like to steal? How would you make it your own?

If there’s one thing that will never, ever get old at weddings, it’s crystal chandeliers. Not only were there beautiful chandeliers in the dinning area there were also these lovely ones hanging from the pine trees.

Five Brilliant Birthday Party Ideas Worth Stealing

This past weekend we celebrated Ivey’s second birthday with a “mariposa” themed party. Here are some of the fabulous birthday party ideas that worked for me, many of which I have ripped off borrowed from friends and Pinterest and you should too.

Let them eat cake! With so many kids with allergies these days, why not bake up some allergen-free cupcakes? Talk about pure joy! Top them off with a basic buttercream frosting and these cupcakes will quickly become everyone’s favorite with or without allergies.

Make your own party favors! With help from my friendly neighbors I was able to quickly leverage a valentines card I found on Pinterest and turn it into a cool bilingual party favors.

Every kids party needs kid friendly finger food. Instead of the traditional Cheddar Bunnies serve some organic cereal in snack sized bags. These little baggies are another one of those great ideas I found on Pinterest.

When it comes to goody bags, skip spending money on the actual bag and decorate inexpensive bags yourself. These mariposas were actually created by slapping paint on little Linden’s feet, which BTW is another great idea from Pinterest. In lieu of cheap dollar store items provide goodies that are actually useful like organic granola bars and travel-sized all natural sunscreen.

And for my all time favorite… Make clean up easy! Stamp these paper Ace® Yard Bags with these cool stamps to easily collect compost, recycling, and trash items.

Special Thanks:
Just want to give a quick shout out to the following… Momma Janet for volunteering her brilliant baking skills while the rest of us finished making the party favors and drank champagne. All our family and friends who attended the party as well as Sunbow Sunscreen and Cascadian Farms for providing supplies for the goody bags. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We couldn’t have had this party without you.

Five Brilliant Birthday Party Ideas Worth Stealing

We recently attended a wonderfully brilliant birthday party for our 4 year old neighbor. Here are some of the fabulous birthday party ideas her mom gave me that I plan on stealing borrowing and you should too.

Make your own banner out of felt. Stringing each letter up with clothespins will give you the ability to rearrange the letters – making it reusable for multiple kids.

Forgo the disposable party supply table cloths and buy bold pieces of fabric.

And I absolutely love the way she spelled out the kids names using these brightly colored alphabet stickers.

Every princess needs a crown. Why not use it to proudly display her age?

And for my all time favorite… Make clean up easy! Use these paper Ace® Yard Bags to collect recycling, trash and compost items.

Project Nursery

Being that my daughter is roughly seven and a half months old, these pictures of her nursery seem a tad overdue. To be honest, like so many home improvement projects, her room will be a constant work in progress. As she continues to grow I will continue to modify and tweak it to meet her changing needs. Until then however, here are some of my favorite items that presently adorn Ivey’s nursery.

nursery-painting

Years ago, during one of my many and frequent shopaholic D.I.N.K. binges, I met Bishop Lennon and purchased a small painting from her at Lavish. That same day, I promised myself that if I ever was lucky enough to have a baby I would somehow convince Bishop to create a painting for the nursery. Obviously, I succeed and I can’t express how thrilled I am with the painting Bishop created for my daughter. It is everything I could have hoped for and more.

nursery-purse

I am not quite sure how old this pink Lucite Florida handbag is but I received it when I was only four years old. Originally it belonged to my Great Aunt Nita and it was gifted to me when she passed. Her passing was my first experience with death and somehow having this handbag accessible through my childhood kept her memory close. I look forward to Ivey playing with it, like I once did, even if it is considered a collector’s item by today’s standards.

Here is a list of all the products I re-purposed for this nursery:

  • Silver piggy bank that was given to me when I worked at Bank of America
  • Teddy Bear that was purchased from the UC Berkeley bookstore in the early 90′s
  • Beautiful pink Lucite Florida handbag that I have had since I was four years old

Here is a list of all the products I purchased for this nursery:

What are your favorite items in your child’s nursery? Where did you find them and what do they mean to you?
