Walmart Get On The Shelf Winners Announced

Walmart has announced the winners of its Get On The Shelf competition, an “American Idol”-like contest that attracted products from inventors, entrepreneurs and small businesses across the nation.

Decided by fan votes, three unique products, including grand prize winner HumanKind Water, took the top spots and will now be featured on Walmart.com and in stores.

It greatly exceeded expectations, with over 4,000 entries and massive engagement on social media. There was also a great deal of traditional media coverage of contestants and the contest by large media and by local outlets across the country, both broadcast and print. Contestants and the public both had fun. This first-of-its-kind initiative couldn’t have succeeded without active participation across the whole organization, including @WalmartLabs, GEC Merchant teams, PR, Walmart.com, Legal, Ethical Sourcing, and more.

“This competition was crowd sourcing at its best,” Walmart spokesman Ravi Jariwala said. According to Jariwala, Walmart will work closely with all three winners to help them manage and meet production needs and increase the visibility of their products to Walmart’s 200 million weekly customers.

Due to the wild success of this “test” do you think other retailers will attempt something similar? If so, who?

Linden Estelle is Eleven Months Old

Linden-Estelle-eleven-months-old-5Linden Estelle turned eleven months old today. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. To ensure I remember all these special moments I will be taking a “birthday” picture every month for her first 24 months as well as charting her developments.

Summary of Linden’s development this past month:

  • She will pretty much repeat any word or tone you make. Not only does she appear to be musically gifted thanks to her dad’s nonstop guitar playing but she is turning into quite the mockingbird as well.
  • She is currently cutting two more teeth, for a grand total of six.
  • Will stand momentarily without support.
  • She will walk around for several minutes while holding on to one of your hands.
  • Will poke and pinch small objects and attempts to put EVERYTHING in her mouth.
  • Is still breastfeeding during the evenings and weekends.
  • And much to my regret, still is not sleeping through the night.

The Outtakes:

We tried taking pictures in the rocking chair again this month but instead of smiling…
Linden-Estelle-eleven-months-old-4She started to complain and then…Linden-Estelle-eleven-months-old-1 Got outright postal. This child knows what she wants and she is not shy about letting others know it!

Super Cute and Easy DIY- Perfect for the Kiddos.

Chalk-it-up-super-cute-and-easy-DYI
When we decided to start a family we knew our lives would change forever. For many people this change includes painting walls with chalkboard paint. However if you hate painting or you can’t paint because you rent, I have the PERFECT solution for you – Chalkboard Contact Paper.

Yep, that’s right thanks to this wonderful contact paper, YOU can easily make a super cute DIY chalkboard WITHOUT having to paint anything!

Chalkboard
First grab an old inexpensive media cabinet (like this one from IKEA). We purchased our several years ago before we ever dreamed of having kids. However, if you don’t already own one you can easily pick up one at a garage sale or on craig’s list.
Chalkboard
When you take the chalkboard paper out of the wrapper you will more than likely think that it feels nothing like a chalkboard and that this is the dumbest idea you have ever tried. Don’t worry. I promise it will work like a charm!

Just make sure you apply it evenly and that you get the bubbles out. I used my shower squeegee for this.
Chalkboard
Once I got to the bottom I used a razor blade to cut off the excess.
Chalkboard
Once your chalkboard is complete you are going to want to cure it. To do this simply rub it with the side of the chalk all over the board and then erase it using a chalkboard eraser.
Chalkboard
Add hyperactive toddler and some chalk.
Chalkboard
That’s it – Now you have a super cute chalkboard without having to paint anything!
